Could Mighty Cord RV Power Cord # A10-5025EDBK Handle 12KW from Generator

Question:

My application is from a 12KW portable generator to a power inlet box to power up my entire house if loss of power occurs. The cord configuration is correct on both ends so thats good. The power from the power inlet box to the main power panel will 6/3 wire to a 50A breaker. My question is: is the cord heavy enough to conduct the 12KW from the generator to the power inlet box? Thanks in advance,

Expert Reply:

12 KW converted to amps at 125 volts is 55 amps and the Mighty Cord part # A10-5025EDBK is only rated for 50 amps. So while your generator can put out more amperage than needed it would come down to whether or not your entire house would draw more than 50 amps at a time.
