Solution for Older Atwood Surge Actuator with Bad Shock

Question:

I have an Atwood surge brake actuator that I need a new shock absorber for. It is an older model, possibly in the 1980s. I cannot find a model number on it anywhere. The shock absorber is six and three-quarter inch eye to eye closed and 9 and 1/2 inch fully opened. It is secured by 7/16inch bolts each end. Can can you help me find this part?

Expert Reply:

Atwood is no longer making actuators at this time so there are no replacement shocks for their actuators anymore. Especially for ones as old as yours. So what you'd need to do is replace the surge actuator with a similar A-frame actuator like the part # DM8609502 which fits a 2 inch ball and is designed for drum brakes. There isn't a similar shock available we can recommend either.
