How Much Clearance Between Trailer Tire and Wheel Well  

Question:

Wheel well question. Building my trailer. I have 5 inches for my wheels to go up and down. How much do need for them to forward and back. I putting a single axle 14 inch tire

Having 5 inches above the trailer tire or no less than about 4 inches when the trailer is loaded is perfect. A leaf spring suspension will allow the axle to rack to a certain degree, so to prevent the tires from rubbing I'd allow the same 4-5 inches of wheel well clearance fore and aft of the tire.
