How to Determine Hanger and Axle Spacing Building a Trailer with 26 Inch Long Double-Eye Springs

Question:

Im installing 550lb double eye leaf spring 26inches eye to eye , what distance would I mount hangers? And is there a safe distance that would give it a softer ride? 33inch x 22foot , Thanks

Expert Reply:

On a spring that is 26 inches eye to eye on center and a single axle trailer you will want the hangers to be up to 1/2 inch less than the spring length so 25-1/2 inches on center between the front and rear hangers.

For the ideal axle position you can follow the formula in the picture I have included. It covers single or tandem axle set ups.
