Parts Needed To Replace Warner Brakes On Trailer With Standard Brakes

Question:

I have a trailer with Warner brakes and I’d like to convert them to a dexter design. They are 12 x 2 with a 14.5 5 lug rim. Do you sell the necessary adapters or is that a custom item? Thanks

There is a way to replace the Warner Brakes on your trailer, but you will need to have a brake mounting flange welded to the axle by an axle shop as the flange needs to be perfectly parrallel to the axle.

If your axle is 2-3/4" diameter you will need the # 4-35, or if your axle is 3" diameter you will need the # 4-44-1.

You will also need to replace your current hub and drum assemblies, but to recommend the correct replacements I will need to know which inner and outer bearings your hubs use.

The easiest way to find this is by removing one of the hubs and looking for the bearing number stamped in the face of each bearing as shown in the picture of the # L44649.

If your bearings are worn to the point that you cannot read the bearing numbers you will need to use digital calipers like # PTW80157 to precisely measure your spindle according to the included diagram.

Lastly you will need to confirm the bolt pattern of your current wheels, as there are a few different 5 lug patterns. I included a link to a helpful article that goes over how to measure your bolt pattern.

If you can provide this info I would be happy to recommend all of the components you will need.
