Locking Diversi-Tech Adjustable Ball Mount Recommendation for a 2012 Ford Super Duty
Question:
I need an adjustable 2.5inch mount. But it looks like the diversi-tech 2.5inch is just a 2inch with a sleeve added. Im also concerned with the security of the locking system and rattling. Seems that a side load could cause a pin to pop out of the hitch.

The Self-Locking, Adjustable, Aluminum Ball Mount # DTALBM6425 that you referenced is designed for 2-1/2 inch hitch openings, and while it does appear to be a 2 inch ball mount with a sleeve on it, it will work just fine on a 2-1/2 inch hitch. The portion that looks like a sleeve is not removable and does not offer any movement so it really should not be an issue.
This ball mount has a locking mechanism that would prevent theft. I have personally handled this ball mount several times and the locking mechanism would be very difficult to defeat and would be considered one of the nicest ones on the market.
If you are concerned about rattle or other noises you could get a Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-062. This product is confirmed to work on 2-1/2 hitch accessories and would take any movement out that might cause rattle.
