Tongue Weight of Travel Trailer Towed By 2020 Land Rover Evoque

Question:

Hello, could you please help me with the following issue: I have a 2020 Range Rover Evoque, no hitch installed yet. And I recently purchased a 2019 Airstream Sport 16inch with 3500 GVWR and 378 hitch weight. I am looking for a towbar for my Evoque, and the original Land Rover Accessories one has 330 lbs max hitch load. I cannot find any aftermarket hitch for my new Evoque. SO my question is, can i use the original one and redistribute weight inside the trailer, so that hitch weights less? Or is ther another option to consider?

If you can lighten the trailer's loaded and ready to tow tongue weight to the point where it's below 330 lbs, it would be okay to use the OEM hitch offered by Land Rover. You could possibly move some items to the rear of the travel trailer to lighten the tongue weight.

This being said, you might want to check what the actual tongue weight capacity of the vehicle itself is. This is typically something I could look up for you, but I cannot find an accessible .pdf copy online. If the tongue weight capacity of the OEM hitch is limited to 330 lbs of tongue weight, there's an even chance that the maximum tongue weight the vehicle can handle is 330 lbs. You never want to exceed the capacity of the lowest rated component of the towing system, whether it be the vehicle or the hitch.

I'll link you to an article that will show a few ways to determine the trailer's tongue weight. The etrailer, part # e99044 is an easy to use tongue weight scale.
