How to Determine if You Old Camper Tie-Downs Can be Used on Your New Vehicle

Question:

I’m transferring a slide-in camper from a 1994 Chevy 2500 extended Cab to a 2012 Crew Cab 2500HD. It was mounted with HappyJack hardware. It looks like the new outer front brackets you have will work with the old inside bed cross-bar, but is it possible to confirm? If not, can you set me up with the front mounting hardware for the new truck?

There are some things you need to consider before determining the compatibility of your old tie-downs with your new vehicle.

To determine the proper camper tie-downs for your 2012 GMC Sierra, there are a few bits of information needed. Knowing that you have a Crew Cab 2500 is only part of the equation.

I've linked to the page for your Sierra's tie downs. From there, you can enter in the dropdown which configuration you have. For example, if you choose "2500 and 3500 - 8 Foot Bed - Crew Cab - with board or step underneath truck bed and with a factory installed hitch", you will see that the proper part number for your tie-downs is # TLC4204 and # TLC3212, so the HappyJac does not have an option for this configuration and won't be able to be used.

So, you need to look at not just the model of your Sierra, but also hitch options and board options.
