How to Extend Trailer Tongue By 36 Inches

Question:

I have a simple utility trailer modified into a closed cargo trailer. It was a DIY kit. So everything is bolted together. The tongue is a simple A frame with the coupler booked onto the 2.5 square bracket. I want to extend the tongue length by finding a 2.5 square by 36 long tongue bar. I can drill and mill the holes for bolting everything myself. I just need to find an extension for the trailer tongue. Anything?

We have a folding trailer tongue hinge that could work for the purpose you describe, as long as your trailer frame isn't constructed of aluminum. You could use the Fulton Fold Away Coupler Hinge, part # FHDPW330300. The hinge kit is designed for 3 x 3 trailer tongues, so you'd need to use some steel plate to shim the width/height difference. You'd need to obtain a 36 inch length of 2.5 x 2.5 tubing to complete your extension.

I've linked to a product description video featuring the hinge kit recommended above.
