The gross vehicle weight rating or GVWR is the most the trailer can weigh fully loaded. In regards to choosing a fifth wheel hitch for a trailer, you'll need to be rated above this figure. For example, if the trailer has a GVWR of 16,190 lbs then a 16,000 lb fifth wheel hitch won't be a wise choice. I recommend a 20K, the Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16140 is the best for the money and will work with Reese rails if that is what you have. This allows you to load the trailer with as much gear as it will allow without having to take the hitch weight capacity into consideration. It is pretty standard to go with a hitch rated for a a few thousand lbs above actual trailer weight.
