Solar Power and Inverter Options with 2021 Jayco Eagle HT Fifth Wheel
Question:
I have a 2021 Jayco Eagle HT 5th wheel that came pre-wired for solar. I have had a generator installed but would like to have an option to run mainly the outdoor mini fridge and maybe the TV from an inverter once it is cooled down. Which solar kit, including inverter, would you recommend? Thanks

For RV application I prefer the Go Power brand of products. If your camper is pre-wired from Jayco I believe they are using the same brand. There is typically two options available in pre-wired from the factory for "solar ready" either using a portable solar connector on the side of the RV or they have installed a Go Power cable entry plate on the roof. You will need to first determine the energy demands being placed on your batteries. If you will only be running the outdoor mini fridge and a TV, then that is minimal.
You can go with a 180 watt system such as the Go Power Weekender RV Solar Charging System with 190 Watt Solar Panel and 1,500 Watt Inverter # 34282183 just maintain batteries and minimal usage of electronics. Keep in mind that anything you start with should be something that is expandable; with the Weekender an additional panel may be added later. However, since you have a 5th wheel, if you go with a roof mounted system then I would prefer the 380 Watt system with a 2,000 Watt Inverter in the # 34282184. This too is expandable later if you decide you need/want more.
If you prefer to begin with a portable system, or your pre-wire arrangement is a portable solar connector on the side of the RV. Then I suggest the Go Power Portable Solar System with Digital Solar Controller and 200 Watt Solar Panel # 34282610. The downside to this system is the need to set up and take down every occasion. The benefits however allow you to park the RV in the shade and move this into the sun as well as, if you later install roof panels you can still use this to augment the charging system. This kit includes single solar panel with built-in solar controller, solar cable, battery clamps, ring terminals, quick-connect cables, SAE solar plug, XLR-style solar plug, and carrying case. There is no inverter with this kit. For the inverter option with this kit, I suggest either the 1,000 Watt Pure Sine Wave Inverter # 34279948. Or if you prefer a 2,000 Watt then # 34278156. Each of these options are Pure Sine Wave Inverters which is what you will want for use with sensitive electronics, such a TV.
