Can the Yakima JayLow Kayak Carrier Straddle a Ridgeline Tower to Optimize Space

Ive attached an image of the portion of my crossbar Id like to mount the Yakima Jay Low kayak carrier on. Can the mounts on the Jay Low straddle the Ridgeline Tower? Have one bracket inside the Tower and one outside of the Tower. In the product description there is a picture of what seems to be one mounted that way. I have a 34 year old round Yakima crossbar. It extends a foot on the outside of the tower. Will it fit tight? Also, is the mounting brackets all plastic or do they have metal inside?

I called Yakima to confirm.

Unfortunately, the JayLow Kayak Carrier, part # Y04073, will not fit around the Ridgeline Towers, part # Y00145. The inner portion can allow it to go over the tower, but there isn't enough space to secure it with the other bracket. It wouldn't be safe to attempt this.

However, the JayLow can carry two kayaks, so you may be able to mount the carrier on the inside of the rack and carry both of your kayaks in that way. If you have three, you can measure the amount of available space you have on the inside and it may well be possible to use two sets of the JayLow to carry all three on your roof.

For you final question, the brackets of the JayLow are all plastic.
