Parts Required to Flat Tow 2016 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro Behind Motorhome
Question:
What are all the parts I will need to tow my 2016 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro with my 40’ Diesel Motorhome. I will be having a Remco Drive shat disconnect system so that I can flat tow. I was also wondering if you hav a car dolly capable of towing my truck again assuming the Remco Drive Shaft Disconnect is installed. I believe I would need something capable of handling 6,000 GVW. Thanks

I have a solution for you to flat tow your 2016 Toyota Tundra TRD behind your motorhome, but unfortunately the curb weight of the vehicle is going to be more than any tow dolly we have available can handle, so that's not an option we can provide. A flat towing system consists of base plates and a compatible tow bar, tow bar wiring, safety cables, and a supplemental braking system and high/low adapter (as needed).
For base plates I recommend using the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # BX3794, since they have removable arms to give your truck the factory look when you're not towing and will be a little bit easier to install than some of the other available choices. For a compatible tow bar, I recommend using the Blue Ox Avail Tow Bar - Motorhome Mount - 10,000 lbs # BX7420 since it won't require adapters to connect to your base plates and has a 10,000-lbs capacity that is more than enough for your truck. This tow bar also comes with safety cables, so you won't need to purchase those separately.
For the tow bar wiring, I recommend using the Roadmaster Flexo-coil Wiring # RM-15267, which is a great choice because it comes with diodes included to help prevent electrical feedback and the damage it can cause to your vehicle's electrical components. This kit splices into your truck's wiring for installation and will require the Brake Light Relay # RM-88400 to work with a supplemental braking system. If you want your truck's brake lights and turn signals to function separately you can also add a wiring converter # 118158 and 2 additional diodes # RM-792 will be needed if you want to retain separate turn and brake signals.
For supplemental braking, which is required by law in most states and provinces, I recommend using the Blue Ox Patriot Portable Braking System - Proportional # BLU37TR; this is a portable system that can be used in multiple vehicles if needed and you won't need to re-install any new components if you decide to get a new truck in a few years. The Patriot provides proportional braking equal to the brakes on your motorhome, so it won't wear down your brakes and still provides great stopping power.
I've linked some review videos, as well as an article that shows how to measure to determine whether or not a high/low adapter is going to be needed in order to keep your tow bar level to the ground. I've also linked our entire selection of high/low adapters for you to look through in the event that you need one.
