Flat towing a 2021 Tundra behind a Motorhome

Question:

I flat tow a 2000 jeep behind a 40foot motorhome but would also like the option of pulling my 2021 tundra. I have read Erick Bs response to Parts Required to Flat Tow 2016 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro Behind Motorhomeinch and feel like this would be a good solution. I think I would just physically disconnect the driveshaft for now. My question before ordering the parts is, I have a keyless ignition and have not found a good answer on how to prevent the steering lock from engaging? Is there a way possible? Thanks

Yes, to keep your steering wheel unlocked you will want to hook up a Remote Battery Disconnect # RM-766. You will than simply turn on your ignition without pushing your brake pedal. When the steering is unlocked you will than push the disconnect button that will turn off all the power to your 2021 Toyota Tundra.

If you are already using a Blue Ox towing system you will need the Base Plate # BX3794. Be sure that your tow bars are rated for the weight of your truck. The Blue Ox Ascent # BX4375 would be the lowest weight rating I would recommend. Blue Ox recommends their Wiring Kit # BX8869 for your taillight wiring.

If you have Roadmaster the Base Plate # 1186-3 will be the one to go with. This base plate does not require the use of a cross bar. Their Nighthawk Tow Bar # RM-677 is the minimum weight rated bars I would use for your truck. And you can get the Combo Kit # RM-9284-2 for your wiring of the taillights.

If you don't already have a portable braking system you will definitely want one with the extra weight of the Tundra. If you do already have a braking system in place you can tell me what you have and I can find you the correct 2nd vehicle kit necessary to work with both vehicles. For a portable brake system I recommend the Brake Buddy Select 3 # HM39524. Its small size makes it easily movable and folds up for easy storage.
