Will Hardware of Curt Roof Basket # C18115 Extend Above Floor Level of Basket

Question:

all reviews are good as far as the quality of the basket but quite a few people say that the mounting hardware actually sticks up inside the bottom of the rack. That cant be right, can it?? Are these people installing it wrong or does it depend on what kind of bars your mounting it to. I will be mounting it to standard, round Yakima crossbars. Thanks for your help.

If you look at the photo I have edited for you, you can see that the ends of the U-bolts and thumbscrews used to secure the Curt # C18115 basket to the vehicle crossbars can indeed extend up above the floor level of the basket. The thicker the crossbars, the less the ends of the U-bolt will extend upward. This is inherent in the design of the basket. Keep in mind, the photo shows the basket assembled, but NOT installed on any crossbars. Since the Yakima round crossbars are 1-1/8 inches thick, the hardware should not extend as dramatically as what you see in the photo.

Although the roof baskets have a stated weight capacity, keep in mind that you will need to abide by the roof capacity of the vehicle.

I've linked to a demonstration video for the Curt # C18115 roof cargo basket
