How's it going, neighbors This is Ed here with etrailer.com and we're taking a look at the rooftop cargo basket from Curt on our 2022 Kia Sorento. Adding a roof basket to your vehicle is gonna help solve the problem of having limited cargo space on the inside. If you have a model Sorento like this one with the third row, if you have that row up, you practically have eliminated all your inside space, so you can make use of the negative space on top of your vehicle by adding a basket. Our basket's made of powder coated stainless steel and that's gonna be a nice medium-sized basket for your bigger bulkier items. Your dimensions are gonna be 42 and 1/2, 37 wide, and it stands about four inches high, as far as your usable space. Now, as far as the distance from the bottom of the, well, sorry, the roof of the vehicle, the lowest point would be your U-bolt and your right at three inches.
Highest point right there is right at five and 1/2. The style of clamp that you're gonna have here, it's gonna work with just about any type of bar. This is that elliptical style from Yakima. It's the Yakima core bar. And this will work with square, round, just about or factory OEM bars.
On the front of our basket, we have a front wing that's gonna help reduce wind noise. If you we're looking for something that's gonna enclose everything on top of your vehicle, a rooftop cargo box may be a good option. Alternatively, if you think a basket would fit better, it would be a great idea to add a weather-resistant bag to help keep everything protected, or at least a net to keep everything secured. Overall, this is a really solid option for someone that needs a entry-level type of basket that they're not gonna put to a lot of consistent use. It's very durable and it's made from nice solid steel and you can also add an extension to it.
I just recently was speaking with one of our neighbors and they we're telling me about how they like the value of it for the cost, and it's just been in my experience that Curt usually makes really solid products. I am very pleased with the quality for the price.Just the right size for my 2017 Chevy Trax.the "U" bolts that are used to clamp the basket to the roof cross bars were a bit long so I cut them shorter & installed rubber caps on top of each stud. This keeps the studs from damaging items in the bssket.See pictures.

The product is great, but I have removed it for now because when its mounted on the car it reduces my gas mileage 7-8 miles per gallon. I was shocked at how much of impact it made. Im now able to get 100 miles further on a tank of gas. Thats a big deal when Im paying California gas prices.
The reason I bought this basket is due to gas prices. I have a 4X4 suburban I use for camping and hunting but it takes a small loan to fill up the tank. Actually this basket cost less than it does to fill it up. So my thought was if i can get all my gear on my daily driver then i could save some money and maybe even sale the burb. So i gave it a shot last weekend. The rack was easy to put together. I had it out of the box and on the roof in under 30 minutes. As you can see in the pic, i have a rather large ice chest, chain saw, 6 man tent, gas stove and my chair on the roof. My camping destination was about 3 hours away. First was a hour of highway driving at speeds around 70. No issues there. Then 2 hours of windy back roads. No issues there either. The basket made it possible for me and my two kids to load up in the car and head to the hills for three days. The plus for me was it only takes 50$ to fill up the car. :-) I had the max weight in this basket with no issues. I'm very happy with this basket.

Thanks for feedback-Are the top bars 1 and round? If so, that would be perfect for my existing Yakima canoe rack!-put in gear then put canoe atop-rain protection and uh, have a canoe too. BTW-you are perhaps the only person on earth to have transported a chainsaw in a BMW!

Yes, it has one single top bar. And yes probably so, but I cant go up to the hills without my trusty saw. I can only amagin what people were thing when I was heading down the freeway.

I am pleased with the quality of workmanship of the Curt roof cargo basket. The Curt was installed on a new 2021 Subaru Outback. This additional space will serve us well on road trips. Thank you in your promptness to ship the rack.

Needed a small rack for gas cans and chainsaws. This fits the bill. Not a high end cargo rack but it fits my needs. If you need more space or a burly rack, get something more expensive.
Overall quality is nice and very sturdy even when loaded and on the trails. Inexpensive way to transform the look of your vehicle while adding extra and/or muddy storage convenience. Minor wind noise running 70 on the interstate but expected that prior to purchase.

Basket works great on my old Accord. The air dam on the front looks funny but really helps cut down on the wind noise. Seems strong enough to hold my rear and the price was decent. Not a bad buy at all

This thing works like a boss. I tie all sorts of crap to it and go flying down the road. Still worth every penny.
It's strong, sturdy, and looks good. The bolts were a little long, and protruded into the cargo area of the basket, but that's to be expected because it has to be able to fit all different size crossbars. I just cut them shorter, but some people who don't have access to our experience with tools will have to deal with those bolts sticking up.
Great product for the price! Note:the clamps/u-bolts that mount it to the cross bars are a one-size-fits-all kind of deal so be prepared to cut the ends off!

Works great, but takes some slight modification if you don’t want the bolts to poke through anything you have stored up there. Could be less of a problem depending on the cross bars you use, but I bought Curt’s cross bars and the bolts stick up pretty far.
The Curt cargo basket seem , good , for the price . Easy to put together all hardware seems good . Only concern is the threaded clamps seems a bit weak and not rust proof . Wish they had an option to purchase better quality clamps .
I'd watched and read reviews, so I knew this basket would work on my Subaru Crosstrek. I'd also read about some of the randomly missing little bits needed to complete the project, so it wasnt a complete surprise to discover a missing nut on one of the fairing bolts. Annoying but not surprising. It's not a critical piece, and perhaps it's made up for by the extra spacers and u-joint knob. Overall, this was not a difficult project for a 64 year old gal!
I ordered the Curt basket and extension and both boxes arrived a day early which was great. Both products were easy to assemble and attach to my Thule rack system even with only the instructions in Spanish to go by. The faring arrived with a huge crack, but etrailer was great! They were able send me a replacement with no issues or charges which was amazing.
Thule aeroblade w/ Curt rack. Used this Christmas for a family trip to Gatlinburg, TN and through the Smokey Mountains. It worked great to get all our gear there and back! Thanks for getting it to us on time.
I just receivef the rooftop carrier. Installation was very easy and it looks great and seems very sturdy. I think it will work well for carrying extra cargo.
The service from etrailer was great! The product was shipped and received incredibly fast. This is The actual product itself was bent a little but was still able to put together and was missing a nut for one of the bolts. I have no real complaints and would definitely buy again.
I have been looking for a roof top basket for my small SUV. I got some much needed information from Andrew N. and decided to order. One issue I had with other baskets is the length of the arms on the U-bolts. Most were way too short and would not fit my aftermarket crossbars. I got the answer I was looking for from Andrew (he deserves 5 stars). Now to the reason for the 4 stars: The basket arrived in good condition and my daughter and I were able to assemble the basket. But the instructions could be clearer. It did take us about an hour to figure out what was what, but once we did, we assembled in about 45 minutes. We haven't used it yet so I'm not able to get a review on the use. For now, I'm happy that it actually fits.

So its been about a year since I purchased and used the roof top basket. Overall I am pleased with the basket. It has allowed us to carry items and free up space in the cabin area. During the pandemic, we tried to minimize contact by carring food for a full week. The basket really helped in that aspect. It worked so well we didnt need to go to the grocery store at all. The one down side is that it does show some rust. I will us DW-40 on those parts to try to prevent any more rusty spots. I would have to say that I am very happy with this basket.
Looks great and fit perfectly on my 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport!!!I should have ordered a cargo net. I will have to now!!

How did you install the brackets by the rear side windows, Im curious about because some rangers dont have the doors that opens up to the extended part of the cab.

Product recieved as stated. Mounted on 2009 Mini Cooper Clubman with Mini base system. Very satisfied with this basket. Looks real good on car. A little noise traveling on a windy day but nothing that is all that bothersome.
