2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2016 Ford Fusion for Electric Bikes

Question:

We saw a video of the installation on a 2016 fusion. It mentioned you'd need stability straps if using the hitch for a bike rack. I don't know what that is but wondering if that is true. Also, wed want a 2inch receiver that could hold a rack plus two bikes @ 50lb each. Secondly, where in Utah ccould we get this installed. thanks so much.

There is one trailer hitch with a 2 inch receiver that fits your 2016 Ford Fusion, which is from EcoHitch:

- EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7239

This is the only hitch with that size receiver that fits your vehicle, but it does not require Stability Straps # 18050, as those are only needed for the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12091 that also fits your car (but has a smaller 1-1/4 inch receiver).

In regards to the bike rack, since the hitch pin hole is recessed a good amount under your Ford's bumper, and sits pretty low to the ground, there is one bike rack I recommend above the rest that has the needed clearances and is able to handle a couple of 50 lb electric bikes. The rack is the Saris Freedom, and the right one will depend on if your bikes have standard tires that are up to 3 inches wide, or fat tires that are up to 5 inches wide.

- Tires up to 3 Inches Wide: Saris Freedom 2-Bike Rack # SA4412B

- Tires up to 5 Inches Wide: Saris Freedom 2-Bike Rack for Fat Bikes # SA4412B-FB

This rack is perfect for you because it has a 60 lb per-bike capacity, measures 12 inches from its hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack, and has an 9 inch rise in the shank. That means it will easily clear your bumper, and give you the needed ground clearance to keep the rack from scraping the ground if you go over a large bump, for example.

In regards to installation, we do not have any affiliations with or know of any specific installers, but any local or even mobile mechanic will have no problem doing the install. Just make a few quick calls to local shops to see who has experience and you'll be able to find someone in no time.
