Trailer Brake Controller on a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Question:
Hello, I recently purchased a used Jeep GC 5.7 with the tow package IV. I plan on towing a travel trailer within the next couple years and I have the 4 and 7 pin connectors. Now what I want to know is does the car have a built-in trailer brake controller or is it something where I would have to purchase a module to then plug into the car? Thanks.

The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee does not come with a brake controller with its tow packages. You will need to add one.
I recommend the Tekonsha Primus IQ, part # TK90160. It's a proportional controller for 1 - 3 axles. It has automatic leveling and built-in battery protection. With continuous diagnostic checks, it's one of our most highly-rated brake controllers.
Combine this with the wiring adapter, part # TK93VR. This will make it much easier to set up the controller. It plugs into the gray plug under the driver side console and then you just need to mount the controller. I've linked to a video installation of these two together on a 2014 Grand Cherokee for you.
