How Should the Grease Seal Fit to the Spindle
Question:
Does the grease seal supposed to fix tight to spindle
asked by: Curtis W
Expert Reply:
Yes. A grease seal like the # 10-19 that comes in the # BK2-100 will fit tightly against the spindle in order to seal the grease inside the hub from the rear. In order to make sure you've got the correct fit you will want to measure the rear hub bore where the seal is inserted into the hub.
The seal's outer diameter needs to be close to this hub bore dimension in order for it to properly function. You'll need a digital calipers like the 4" Carbon Fiber Digital Caliper # PTW80157 to measure the hub bore to the nearest thousandth - to three decimal places such as 1.000. Next you'll need to measure your spindle at the point where the grease seal rides. The linked diagram shows you this point, labeled as B. This needs to match closely to the grease seal inner diameter.
