How to Tell if 12v Circuit on 7-Way is Active on 2019 Volkswagen Atlas
Question:
I have a 7 pin connector on my suv. Hitch and pin connector was installed already when I bought it new. In most cases is the 12 volt active on the 7 pin?

Your 7 Pin connector should be active, especially if it was factory installed. You can test the connector with a circuit tester like our # PTW2992 when the vehicle is on. Then shut it off and test again to see if your connector is still drawing power with the engine off.
If it is not active there is either a blown or missing fuse (check your owner's manual for location), or it possibly did not come active from the factory. In which case you can run a wire from the battery to the 7-way to activate it. You need 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 (sold by foot) through a breaker part # 9510 from the positive post of the battery to the 7-way pin and you are all set.
The Isolation Solenoid # PK5231201 you referenced can be used to shut off the 12-volt feed from your vehicle battery to 12-volt accessories on your trailer when the ignition is turned off. This lets you run the trailer's electrical components without draining your tow-vehicle's battery if you keep the trailer plugged in.
The outside studs would need a ring terminal with a 3/8 inch inner diameter like the part # DW05705-1, the middle stud needs a 3/16 inch part # 44-5310A.
