Bypassing Factory 12 Volt Power Circuit of Vehicle to Power Curt Echo Mobile Brake Controller
Question:
2019 Atlas SE 4-Motion with factory tow package. No trailer yet, getting ready. Have Curt Echo. Plug it in but no LED. Does a trailer have to be connected to activate the 12V power to the hitch receptacle? If so, is there a device which simulates a trailer being connected? I’ve also read that VW may have to activate the power through a software change but not confirmed.

The most consistent way to activate the 12 volt accessory circuit of a 7-way on a vehicle that has odd requirements that have to be met before it's active is to bypass the factory wiring altogether. You can do this by running 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 which is sold by the foot from the positive post of the battery to the 1:00 pin of the vehicle 7-way through a breaker like # 9510.
Now if there's a way to activate it through VW via a software change you'd have to contact a VW dealer.
