Is 1,500 lb Tongue Weight Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution Right for 10,000 lb GVWR Trailer

Question:

Hello, i recently purchased the curt c17501 for my travel trailer which is a 2010 jayco g2 32bhds and according the the specs dry weight is 7765lb and 1005lb TW. A little confused as the dry weight of the camper is already over the 10 of tongue weight i understand it should be between 10-15. But anyways the GVWR is 9760 and i based my purchase of this hitch on the max weight of the trailer and 15 tongue weight which would be 1464. now im second guessing myself if i bought a hitch rated to high or did i make the correct decision on going with the max possible weight. Thanks

The 15,000 lb/1,500 lb tongue weight Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System with Sway Control # C17501 is likely going to be a very good choice for your nearly 10,000 lb GVWR trailer.

Tongue weight is typically between 10 and 15 percent of the GVWR, and 15 percent is on the high end of it; more often than not it is going to come down less than that. Even if you were near 15 percent of tongue weight you would still be in the proper range of the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System with Sway Control # C17501.

If you have a higher tongue weight you can also re-arrange or re-position the weight in your trailer, so to be sure you are within the range I do recommend a tongue weight scale like # e99044.

I have added a link to a video showing how to use this with weight distribution.
