Titan BrakeRite EHB Runs After Vehicle is Turned Off and Sounds Different with Brake Pedal
Question:
When I step on the brake you can hear the pump pumping..you can actually hear the motor running in it. The starnge thing is that when you let go of the brakes, you still hear the pump going for about 30-45 seconds but with sort of a different type of hum or pump noise. Is this normal? Why does the pump keep running after I let go of the brake and even after I shut the car off for 30-45 seconds? How can this be fixed?

The motor on the BrakeRite # T4813102 will cycle when power is applied to it. It has to build up a certain amount of pressure to apply the brakes properly. It will cycle when it needs to as long as power is applied. If the 7-Way on your truck allows for constant 12 volt power on the 7-Way, even with the vehicle off, if the trailer is connected it will supply power to the BrakeRite and it will cycle.
The different sound in the motor could be due to the different amounts of pressure that are already built up or the the weaker amount of power because the vehicle engine is not running. There should be a change in tone when using the brake pedal versus using the manual override on the brake controller as mentioned in the manual.
If you think that it is not functioning correctly, it could be a wiring issue as Titan indicates that wiring errors are the most common cause of the unit not working properly. Check the wiring on your unit against the picture I have provided to make sure that it is wired correctly.
Also, only certain brake controllers are compatible with an electric over hydraulic system. If you are using a controller that is not compatible it can cause some problems and poor or no braking. For a compatible controller I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885.
