Weight Distribution For A 2013 Toyota Sienna
Question:
We tow a small box trailer with our 2013 Toyota sienna. There is so much sag in the back when we are towing. I have talked to you guys before about installing air bags. Can I also install this weight distribution hitch? You have a video for a Honda odyssey, but in the description it says not to use on a van. I was thinking of installing the airlift 1000 and keeping 5-10 PSI in the bags first and having the WDH on for when we tow to keep the front of the van pushed down. Would this hitch work for us?

As long as your hitch is rated for weight distribution and your owners manual doesn't specifically say you cannot use weight distribution then you can use it and I recommend it if you are getting a lot of sag. The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Round - 6,000 lbs GTW, 600 lbs TW Item # FA94-00-0600 is a great option for a weight distribution set up on your 2013 Toyota Sienna. This hitch allows backing and has sway control which I always recommend when looking for a weight distribution set up. Keep in mind you do not want to exceed the maximum tongue weight capacity of the hitch receiver on the van and you want to make sure your trailer weight is not exceeding the weight capacity of the weight distribution hitch.
When setting up weight distribution it is not specifically designed to push the front of the vehicle down. It is designed to push the extra tongue weight of the trailer back onto the trailer axles. This brings the back of the van back up to normal ride height and lowers the front of the van so your headlights are aiming at the road in front of you and not in the air. It also help with braking and uneven tire wear. With out weight distribution, as the back of the van sags it raises the front end. With the front end raised the front tires camber, which means they turn in at the bottom. You have less tread making full contact with the ground which causes the outer edge of the tire to wear faster than the rest. It also affects your front end braking and steering. The braking is affected because you don't have as much tire making contact with the road surface and your steering is affected because the front of the vehicle is up which makes steering very light.
I would install the Air Lift AirLift 1000 Air Helper Springs for Coil Springs - Rear Item # AL60732 as well. Having the airbags will make the ride quality much better when towing.
I provided the link to the video again to help walk you through installing the airbags on your 2013 Toyota Sienna and a link to the video of the weight distribution to help walk you through how to set it up. The weight distribution is being set up on a 2018 Honda Odyssey but the instillation and set up will be the same for your vehicle.
