Compatibility of Trailer Hitch Reducer Sleeve or 2-1/2 Inch WD Shank For New Truck Compatibility

Question:

Hi, I have a Fastway e2 square bar WD system item # FA92-00-1000 I used to tow a 6000lb dual axle Airstream with my previous tow vehicle, which had a 2inch hitch receiver. My new tow vehicle F250 has a 2.5inch receiver, and I would like to know what the best option is for me to use this setup with my new vehicle. Can I simply use a reducer like the Curt Reducer Sleeve item # C45405, or do I need to go with a new shank such as the Curt 2.5inch Shank item # C17131? The new hitch is 22inch to the top of the receiver, and the Airstream is 20inch to the bottom of the coupler when leveled as best as I can measure it. Thanks for any help!

A reducer like the Curt Reducer Sleeve 2-1/2" to 2" # C45405 will work with your current shank without any loss of capacity. Because there is another moving part, it may give you slightly more noise than using a 2-1/2 inch shank like # C17131 which will give you the 2 inch drop you referenced. If it were me, I'd use the Curt reducer sleeve.
