The short answer to this question is- No.

The B&W Hitch Receiver Reducer Sleeve # BWRHXA2182 does not reduce the tongue weight or towing capacity of your hitch in the same manner that a hitch adapter like the # HTAD would. You will still be able to tow and carry the full capacity that your vehicle and hitch are rated at. While it is rated for towing, you would still be best served by using a ball mount for a 2-1/2" receiver since those are often rated properly for towing applications most commonly used by vehicles with 2-1/2" receivers.

If you need a ball mount for a 2-1/2" receiver, you may want to check out the B&W Heavy-Duty Ball Mount # BWBMHD30210, which uses a hitch ball with a 1-1/4" diameter shank. If you need a hitch ball with that diameter shank, the # BWHB94050 is a 2-5/16" ball that will work with this mount.
