Is it Safe to Use the Thule Passage 3 Bike Trunk Mount Bike Rack on a 2008 Ford Edge
Question:
We purchased the Thule Passage 3 Bike Carrier - Trunk Mount for our 2008 Ford Edge. The point at which the top strap mounts, at the top of the hatch is a molded plastic portion of the body which is attached to the metal portion of the hatch. Is it safe to mount the top straps to this plastic as opposed to a metal surface?

Thule does show the Passage 3 trunk mount bike rack, # TH911XT, as a fit for the 2008 Ford Edge which means they have tested it and determined it is safe for use. However, if you notice anything that is cause for concern with fit or the security of the rack then I would stop using it. We have not had complaints about trunk mount racks and the Ford Edge.
If you will be carrying womens, childrens, or alternative frame bikes I recommend using the bike adapter bar # TH982XT for greater ground clearance and to carry the bikes more level. I have included a link to a video that shows how the adapter works.
