Camper Tie Downs for 2000 Ford Super Duty

Question:

I read somewhere that these type of mounts are NOT recommended for shortbed trucks? Any advice on this? Thanks

There are several different types of tie downs, bed mounted, bumper mounted and frame mounted. For you 2000 Ford Super Duty I recommend frame mounted tie downs, they provide the strongest base for securing your camper. Since the attachment points are on the frame, which is lower than the bed, it distributes the weight better and gives you better handling and a more stable rig.

The TorkLift Custom Frame-Mounted Camper Tie-Downs Front # TLF2007 and Rear # TLF3001 are a great example. The fit for these tie downs are specific to what hitch and running boards you have, so I linked the page with all the Torklift Frame Mounted Camper Tie Downs that fit your truck, just use the drop down menu to pick the correct variation of your truck.

Turnbuckles secure your camper to the tie-downs, TorkLift Locking FastGun Turnbuckles for Frame-Mounted Tie-Downs # TLS9529-2-LK is what I recommend. They extend from 25" to 43" and have a lever action handle for easy operation. It comes with 4 locks that are keyed alike and 4 keys to secure it.

To get power and lights to your camper you'll need wiring. You can use Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Wiring Harness # C56000. This will give you a fully functioning 7 way in the bed of your truck to make it easy to hook up your camper.

I have linked all the parts above, a few videos for reference and an article with some really helpful information about in bed campers.
