Wiring Recommendations for 2020 Hyundai Palisade Limited

Question:

I am a bit concerned the way the connectors terminate at the bumper of the Palisade. The bumper is plastic as you know. You have a magnetic mounting bracket 306-X6019 but that only accommodates the 4-way plug. I bought the 7-way upgrade but there doesnt appear to be a way to mount it in the vicinity of the hitch. What do you suggest? I want the option of having both a 7 and 4-way connector.

For your 2020 Hyundai Palisade Limited edition you will need a wiring kit to transfer the light signals to your trailer, the pre-wiring provides a plug for the trailer wiring to hook up. I recommend Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # CU94FR. It provides a 4 way flat trailer connector and hooks directly into the tow package plug on the underside of your Palisade. It is a 1 piece, or 1 end connector, however there are adapters that will allow you to have both a 7 and 4 way like your Ram does, but the design is a little different. Since the wiring is designed to stay on the outside of the vehicle, I recommend using a bracket to secure it, it also looks nicer in the end.

If you use the 4 pole wiring kit and don't need a 7 way you can use Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat # 18144 and No-Drill Mount for Electrical Mounting Bracket # 18140 to mount the wiring to your hitch. Another option to keep your wiring secure and look good is Eclipse Magnetic Mounting Bracket for 4-Way Flat Trailer Connectors # 306-X6019. This bracket has an extremely strong magnet, so you can virtually mount it anywhere that the wiring can reach, and has a metal surface.

For a multi plug trailer connector, or one that has both a 7 and 4 way I recommend the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation # ETBC7L which will plug into the Curt T-Connector harness # CU94FR. This will make it much easier to add a brake controller like Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 which is the one I recommend for you Palisade. It only requires a power wire to be ran to the battery with an included breaker in line. The brake controller is wireless and can be controlled through your smart phone so the interior can stay completely stock. No worries about mounting a traditional style box controller and no holes in the dash.

When it comes to the install it is very straight forward and jack stands or a ramp will make it easier, at least for space. The Curt hitch #C13427 requires the spare tire to lowered during the installation, but fits back into place and does not interfere with anything, so having the back lifted up even a little will give you some more head room to work. I recommend do the wiring at the same time as the hitch because there is a panel that needs to be accessed for both and it makes routing the wiring where you want to go a little easier.

I attached a photo of the T-one wiring harness with the 4 pole bracket for you to check out, and links and videos of all the parts mentioned.

I totally understand being concerned about how to mount the wiring, no one wants to drill holes or change how their new car looks. The 7 way upgrade # # ETBC7L has both a 7 and 4 way connector, and there are a couple different options of how to mount it. I suggest Eclipse Magnetic Mounting Bracket for 7-Way and 6-Way Trailer Connectors # 306-X6020, and the Eclipse Magnetic Mounting Bracket for 4-Way Flat Trailer Connectors # 306-X6019. Since they are both magnetic you can have them right next to one another and have a really clean look. Another option is Curt Easy Mount Bracket for 4- or 5-Way Flat and 6- or 7-Way Trailer Connectors - 2" Hitch # C58000. This has both the 7 and 4 way, but the bracket bolts around the receiver tube to provide an attachment point. Both options will work to provide an attachment point, but if the way it looks is one of your biggest concerns, the magnetic brackets are the way to go. You'll have a lot more freedom of how you want to angle and place the brackets and make sure that you're happy with how it looks.
