Installation of Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2010 Nissan Xterra

Question:

I have looked at all the wiring instructions on the relay wiring harness. I know u have to remove the passenger side kick panel. But where Im lost is once you plug in the 12 pin connecter what do you do. All the instructions just say tuck it back in and replace the panel. You dont have to connect anything else in there? Ive looked at youtube videos and nothing helps.

Step 4 in the instructions for wiring harness # C56225, linked for reference, seems to be where you are running into a little trouble. Before plugging in the harness to the vehicle behind that kick panel, you will need to insert the relays on the the connector.

On the other end of the 12 pin connector there are 3 ports, one for each of the relays. The brown one goes with the brown relay and the white plugs go with the blue relays. After you have plugged in everything you can tuck in the wiring and replace the kick panel.

The harness that you plugged in is part of the tow package wiring. You are essentially just adding the relays and the harness is a means to communicate with them. This allows the trailer wiring further back to function properly.

Once you are done you will connect the other half of the harness at the rear of the vehicle according to the instructions. With the relays in place this rear connection will now function properly.
