Tire and Wheel Recommendation for Small Boat Trailer with 5.30 x 12 tires on 4 Lug Wheels

Question:

My 1963 small boat trailer is a few hundred miles away and I want to order tires and have them shipped there. I wrote down the size 5.30 12inch 4 lug. My question is, is the axle hole a standard measurement and is the 4 lug standard at 4 inches. I didn’t check those measurements when I was there.

Hi Tony,

The pilot hole (large center hole) on the tire/wheel combos we carry with the 5.30-12 tire size can either be 2.84 inches or the smaller and less common, 2.52 inches. There is only one 4-lug wheel configuration, that being the 4 on 4 bolt pattern you mentioned.

Based on the photos you sent, I recommend the Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" Galvanized Wheel # AM30710. This tire and wheel combo features the same 4-ply construction and load range as the tire in your photos (840-lb maximum load at 55 psi). The rust-resistant galvanized wheel is ideal for marine applications like yours. This wheel has a pilot diameter of 2.84 inches, which is by far the most common for a 12 inch wheel with a 4-bolt pattern.

Now, if you're only looking to replace the tire and reuse your existing wheels, you can use # AM10064.
