Whereas belt-driven fans use up power from the engine to turn, electric fans do not, thus removing any unnecessary load and increasing both fuel economy and horsepower. In addition, you do not have to worry about an electric fan's slowing down at low RPM, as many belt-driven fans do, so you are guaranteed sufficient airflow regardless of the vehicle speed.

While this assembly is intended for primary cooling and should, therefore, provide enough CFM to replace your vehicle's factory fan, you will still need to determine the CFM requirements for your engine before making your purchase. And remember, engines that have been modified or vehicles often used for towing may require additional CFM. There is no limit to the number of fans you can install, as long they all fit appropriately and are mounted on the same side of your radiator so that they do not cancel each other out.

Two types of turn-on sources are available for this fan. The Derale Lighted On/Off Switch for Electric Fans (D16740) allows for manual control of your fan so that you can choose when to turn it on and off. Thermostatic controls, on the other hand, send a signal to the fan, directing it to shut off when fluid temperatures reach an appropriate level, thus saving power. Once the temperature climbs again and additional cooling is needed, the fan is automatically turned back on. Thermostat switches can be single-stage with pre-set temperatures - D16735, D16738, D16739, D16720 and D16721 - or adjustable - D16788 and D16789.

I have a motor home with a Cat 3126 engine. The engine is rated at 330 HP. I was wondering if I could replace the fixed belt driven fan with the dual fan 4000cfm unit. I have not been able to get any info. from the Cat. People as to the cfm requirement of this engine cooling system. Any information would be appreciated.

I spoke with Derale, and we can get a better idea with some information about the radiator core. If you can measure the height, width and thickness of the fin area of the radiator, exclude the frame work, Derale will be better able to help us determine how much airfolw is needed.

Patrick: I got around to getting the measuring the radiator in my motorhome. The radiator is 37 12 wide by 28 tall by 4 inches thick. I appreciate your help in this matter. Merry Christmas and have a very Happy New Year.

I just got off the phone with my Derale guy. He said that 1 of their D16825 dual fan assemblies definitely would NOT be sufficient for cooling a radiator of that size. His recommendation is 2 of the D16837 units. They are similar, to the unit you were originally looking at, just bigger in dimension. Each unit will move 4,000 CFM. They measure 27 inches wide by 16 inches tall with a 3-7/16 overall thickness. The larger size will allow you to spread the airflow more evenly across the radiator and be at a good dimension for the mounts. With a total of 4 fans, it would pull enough air across the radiator to sufficiently cool it. These units include the mounting hardware, but the wiring is sold separately so you can pick how you want it to wire up. The D16837 is a newer unit that we have not added to our site yet. So I've requested that it be added to the site for you, in case you decide you want to make the swap. The link below won't work yet, but it will as soon as the part goes up.I'll also email you when I have confirmation that it has been added to our site.

  • Will a Derale Electric Radiator Fan Fit a 2007 Nissan Armada
To determine if the Derale electric radiator fan # D16825 will fit your 2007 Nissan Armada, you have to look at its external dimensions and compare that to the available space in the engine compartment of your Armada. The fan is 25-5/8 inches wide, 15-1/8 inches tall, and 3-1/2 inches deep. In metric units it is 65 cm by 38-1/2 cm by 8.9 cm. This is a puller fan only meaning it has to be between the radiator and motor and pulls air through the radiator. You would not wire it directly to...

I'd measure to make sure but the Derale part # D16825 that you referenced is very close to the dimensions you listed as it measures 25-5/8" wide x 15-1/8" tall x 4" deep. If you can fit the extra width of 1-5/8 inches and depth of 1/2 inch this would work great. For something a little less wide we have the part # D66833 which is 24" Wide x 17" tall x 4-1/2" deep

  • Recommendations for Cooling a C4 Transmission in a 1966 Ford Bronco Rock Crawler
It sounds to me like you will definitely want to upgrade your transmission cooler. Since you will not have a cooler that is being cooled by the fluid running through the radiator, I agree that you will need to upgrade or add a cooler to your system. Heat Sink Coolers like the Dual-Pass Heat Sink Transmission Cooler, item # D13266, that you referenced are not nearly as efficient as a plate and fin cooler or a cooler with an electric fan added. • Is Derale Dual Electric Radiator Fan A Variable Speed
The Derale Dual High-Output, Electric Radiator Fan, part # D16825, is a single speed system and both fans operate at the same time. There are options available for control of the fans you may be interested in. The first is to use a switch like the Derale Lighted On/Off Switch, part # D16740. This switch is a simple toggle switch that allows you to easily turn your fans on or off. If you wish to install an automatic system, I recommend part # D16789. This will turn the fan on or off...
