Best Brake Controller For 2012 Lexus RX 450 Hybrid
Question:
Ive tried the Tekonsha Prodigy RF 90250 controller that plugs into 12v receptacle in the car, but it fails to pair with the mounted brake unit on the trailer tongue... only with my hybrid Lexus. Itll pair with a friends Tundra, no problem. The video for the Autowbrake system says it requires a consistent 15 amps. Is this possible with a hybrid vehicle? Your site says both units are compatible with my vehicle, but I havent had success with the Prodigy RF, so Im wondering if the Autowbrake would have the same problem. Thanks for any help on this.

I would first encourage you to test the 7 way connection on your 2012 Lexus RX 450h and make sure that the issues aren't stemming from some sort of damaged wiring/connection. We don't have any confirmation that the Tekonsha Prodigy RF will or will not work on your vehicle, but it could be something simple that is keeping you from using it.
You'll want to make sure that all of the circuits are functioning correctly; you can use a circuit tester like the # PTW2992 to verify that each circuit is functioning correctly or you can use a 7 way trailer connector tester like the # C73NR -which may be handy to have around as well. You'll also want to make sure that the 7 way connector is free from rust and dirt to make sure that this isn't a connection issue. If you find any damage along the way, you'll likely want to replace your 7 way connector with something like the Hopkins # HM47210 .
In regards to the Autowbrake # 3430001 you are correct that it likely isn't going to work with your vehicle because of the required 15 amp output from the vehicle. For this reason I would instead recommend using the Curt Echo Mobile Brake Controller # C51180 . The Curt Echo also has the same easy to use and install features that I'm sure attracted you to the Autowbrake and Prodigy RF in the first place; this brake controller requires nothing to be installed in the cab of your vehicle and is controlled by an app on your phone. The Echo provides you with a proportional brake controller for up to 2 axles and is compatible with ABS brakes, cruise control, low-voltage wiring, and pulse width modulation (PWM) systems. With your phone connected to the brake controller via a Bluetooth connection and a brake controller that simply plugs into the existing 7 way connector on your vehicle, this is one of the easiest to install and use brake controllers on the market.
