Comparing the Curt MV C17063 and Husky Center Line HT32218 Weight Distribution Systems
Question:
I would like to know the bar lengths for the curt wd system for a tongue weight of at least 1000 lbs.I have a car trailer that measuring from the rear of the ball to the first cross member is 26. Cross member is 2inch wide. I can not find that info and feel i will need and offset or short bars of some sort. Thks Using a 2017 ram 1500 with tow and suspension package. Enclosed trailer is 27 feet and weighs 3,000 lbs empty 10,000 loaded. I have enclosed pic of trailer tongue. I was looking at the c17063 model as I want the sway control. Can you back up if you take sway control off? on this model

I have a solution for you but I'm afraid the Curt MV # C17063 isn't your best choice. For a weight distribution system that works with trailer tongue weights between 800 lbs - 1,200 lbs, I recommend the Husky Center Line # HT32218.
I consider this option to be an exceptional value because it has many advantages over the C17063 while remaining at an economical price point. Below are some of the reasons I believe you will be happier with this system in the long run:
1. Trunnion bars provide more ground clearance than traditional round bars.
2. It allows backing up without the need to remove any components.
3. Superior 4-point sway control not only reduces but helps prevent sway is much more effective than friction bar systems.
4. Significantly reduced noise level.
5. Lifetime warranty vs 1 year on the Curt.
The brackets on the # HT32218 install between 28-1/2 - 30-1/2 inches back from the center of the ball which based on your photo should fit on your trailer frame behind the cross member. I recommend weighing your trailer tongue to determine your exact loaded tongue weight as well as measuring both the hitch height and coupler height to ensure the maximum drop (1-1/4 inches) on the included shank will work for you.
In regard to your questions, the spring bars that come with the Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17063 are 31.67 inches long. To safely back up with the Curt MV # C17063 it is recommended to disengage both the friction sway control bar as well as the spring bars to avoid damaging/bending the friction bar, spring bars and trailer frame. With that being said, friction sway control is not nearly as effective as other systems and definitely not the ideal system for your 10,000 lb trailer.
I have included a couple of videos and help articles that I believe you will find useful.
