Using Wiring Kit ETBC7 to Upgrade Existing 4-Way and Install Brake Controller on Ram ProMaster Van
Question:
Hello. A couple years ago, we installed one of your Curt #C56209 harnesses onto a customers 2014 Ram ProMaster 2500 cargo van. He recently asked to upgrade to a 7-pin round harness so he could pull a larger trailer that has electric brakes. I was thinking we would have to install a completely new harness, but then I found this #ETBC7. Looks much better to be able to connect directly to the existing 4-flat, but how will this interface with the controller #TK90160 that he wants to use? Or will that take us back to having to install something like harness kit #22112, which was my original plan? Thanks...

The Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7 that you referenced was essentially put together for exactly what you are needing to do on your customer's 2014 Ram ProMaster Van. It is designed to upgrade an existing 4-Way harness like what's on the van to a fully functional 7-Way connector (while still retaining use of the 4-Way) for use with a trailer brake controller like the Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90160 that you mentioned.
The 7-Way harness from the kit will plug right into the current 4-Way to provide a 7-Way and 4-Way at the other end. The additional wires coming from the harness, along with the separate duplex wiring and circuit breakers that come included, are what you will use to complete the 7-Way circuits and wire in the brake controller.
The easiest way to break down how everything ties into each other is with the diagram attached below. Basically the blue (brake output) and black (12V power) wires will be extended from the 7-Way harness up to the cab of the van using the duplex wiring. The blue wire will connect directly to the blue wire on the Primus IQ and the black wire goes up to the battery under the hood via the circuit breakers and then to the brake controller's black wire for power. For a longer vehicle like this you might need to add some extra duplex wiring with # 10-2-1.
I have also attached the complete installation instructions for the kit below that you can look through for a detailed step-by-step process. This is definitely the route you want to take rather than replacing the existing 4-Way entirely with a kit like the Tekonsha # 22112 that you also referenced (it's also more cost-efficient).
