Parts Needed to Install 4-Pole/7-Way on 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Without Factory Connector

Question:

Hello, I have a 2003 chevy silverado 1500. There is no factory plug on the truck, just the end of the wiring harness near the spare tire. I assume I need to splice into that. Could you recommend the best product so I can set up for 4 pin and 7 pin round plugs?

If your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has a round plug at the end of the wiring harness at your rear bumper (that looks like the one in the linked picture) than you can use part # HM40975 to have a combination 4-pole and 7-way trailer socket.

If you have just bare wires near the spare you'll instead use part # HM40975-11998 which includes the 4-pole/7-way plus a wiring adapter and connector and butt connectors for splicing your truck's wires.

On the truck the yellow wire is the left turn and brakes, dark green wire is the right turn and brakes, brown wire is for the taillights, and white is the ground. Often if the loom is cut back, two more wires will be found. The light blue wire provides a lead for a camper shell brake light. The other, a light green wire, is for the reverse lights. You'll match these wires to those on the Hopkins harness by FUNCTION, not wire color. Please refer to the wiring configuration table on the page for the Hopkins connector; this will tell you the function of each wire.

You may also need to make some connections under the hood at the power distribution box to activate the 12V power and brake circuits. The linked article illustrates.
