Weight Distribution System for 30 Foot Aerolite Travel Trailer with 808 lb Dry Tongue Weight
Question:
My trailer has a stated tongue weight of 808 lb. The 66083 has a rating of 800 lb. Thinking about the propane tanks being full, the batteries being mounted on the trailer in the front but probably not included in the weight and reading from you that any load in the truck behind the wheels counts, would the 1200 lb Reese be a better choice? You mention that an assembly rated too much higher than its actual use may cause instability, so I am not sure which way to go. I am a novice to all this, this is my first trailer. a 30 Aerolite

The effective range of the W/D system you choose should encompass the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer, which includes anything stored behind the rear axle in the cargo area of the tow vehicle (as you stated). You are also right on the money with needing to include the weight of the propane tanks and batteries. Given this, the RP66083 would have insufficient capacity to handle the tongue weight of your trailer.
For your 30 foot Aerolite, I would recommend the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System, part # RP66084. This system is designed for trailers with tongue weights ranging from 600 to 1200 lbs, which is perfect for the tongue weight of your trailer. Due to the 30 foot length, I suggested the Strait-Line system which in addition to the standard trunnion bar weight distribution, also includes the Reese Dual Cam Sway Control. Crosswinds or turbulence generated by oncoming traffic will not cause a trailer sway problem when using this system. The weight distributing shank is included, but the appropriately sized trailer ball with a 1-1/2 inch threaded shank will be needed. For a 2 inch trailer ball, use part # A-90 or for a 2-5/16 inch ball, part # 19286.
