Can the Trailer Still Be Towed With the Trailair Air Ride 5th Wheel Pin Box If the Air Bag Fails

Question:

If I purchase a Trailair Air Ride 5th Wheel Pin Box - Lippert 1716 - 21,000 lbs and at some day in the distant future hopefully distant Im on the road somewhere and the airbag fails will not hold air am I dead in the water until I get a replacement airbag? More specifically, am I now not able to tow my fifth wheel until the airbag is replaced? If I can tow, what are my towing limitations - speed, etc?

If the airbag inside of the Trailair Air Ride 5th Wheel Pin Box part # LC158777 fails which is very rare then it would be best to have a backup on hand, the Replacement Air Spring for Trailair 5th Wheel Pin Boxes part # LC432404 that way you can replace this roadside because it is only held in place with three nuts/bolts so it should be rather easy. We also have the Replacement Shock for Trailair Air Ride and Flex Air 5th Wheel King Pins part # LC177223 but this is not as critical to have on hand.

That said, you should still be able to get your trailer to a service center without air in the bag. The cushioned ride will no longer be present so you would be able to feel the trailer more but this is not a huge safety issue. Lippert does not recommend driving with the air bag deflated so they do not have any sort of restrictions for this but if you are worried then I would get the Replacement Air Spring for Trailair 5th Wheel Pin Boxes part # LC432404 and keep it on hand for a quick roadside change-out or just be mindful when driving to a service center.
