Trailer Axle Over-Under Kit to Raise Height of Trailer
Question:
Which triple axle kit will be best to replace a trailer frame to get the most height and best ride
asked by: Travis M
Expert Reply:
You can increase trailer height by welding on taller spring hangers but there is also another way to lift a trailer without having to cut off the old hangers and weld on all new ones, an axle over-under kit.
Kit # K71-384-00 for 2-3/8-inch diameter axles and kit # K71-385-00 for 3-inch axles are bolt on kits that place your leaf springs above the axles, as shown in the linked photo. The amount of lift you get will be the sum of the axle diameter plus the height of the spring stack. So, if you have 3-inch axles and 2-inch tall spring stacks kit # K71-385-00 will give you 5-inches of additional height. You will need one kit per axle.
Any method of raising the height of a trailer will naturally raise its center of gravity and this may allow for a little more sway than you're used to.
