How do I drop the driven landing gear leg so I can replace the gears?

You will either need to connect to your truck or have another stabilizer to support the weight when you remove the landing gear. The lead or follow leg can then be removed by loosening the welded brackets that hold the leg in place and move them around the weld stops on the leg. Once everything is disconnected, you will be able to simply remove the leg from the trailer and then you can do the replacement of gears you need.

If you don't have the gears you can use the Follow Jack Repair Kit for Stromberg Carlson Landing Gear # LG-146060.

Based on your picture the replacement motor you need is actually the part #LC380073. This would explain why the #LC379608 that you referenced is not fitting at all.

Thanks for the picture! Based on that I was able to determine that the kit you need is the part #LC380073. The cog or gear you mentioned is not available separately so this would be only way to fix your steps.
