Hitch Height of Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch When Installed on a 2018 Chevy Equinox
Question:
We are looking to use a cargo rack and are conserned that it will be too low to the ground. Can I get a measurement and recommendation if this would work?

When we installed the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 36642 on a 2018 Chevy Equinox we found that from the ground to the top inside of the hitch receiver measured 11". Since you are looking to use a cargo carrier I recommend using the 2" hitch receiver # 76419 instead because it gives you a lot more options when it comes to using a cargo carrier. The ground clearance for this was 10-7/8" when we installed it on a 2018 Equinox. These are your best options for ground clearance with a trailer hitch since only the receiver is hanging beneath your rear fascia.
If you don't already have a cargo carrier then I highly recommend the 24x60 etrailer.com Cargo Carrier # E98874. We have yet to install this on a Chevy Equinox but we did get a chance to install the similar Curt Cargo Carrier # C18151 on a 2015 Equinox (see attached video). The etrailer.com carrier has the same 2" rise in the shank that the Curt option does but it is also about 20 lbs lighter and you get the option to tilt it back in the event that you have something taller loaded and you need to get into the rear hatch of your Equinox.
Should you decide to stick with the 1-1/4" option then I recommend the 20x47 Reese Cargo Carrier # 63155 which is slightly smaller but does have a shank rise of 3" so your overall ground clearance will be a little higher.
Attached are installation videos and photos of the Draw-Tite trailer hitches that you can reference as well.
