Weight Distribution with Sway Control Recommendation Ford Super Duty Towing a 7300 lb Trailer
Question:
Ford f250, 7.3 diesel. Trailer 7300 lb.dry plus 1000 to 1500 lb. load. Which is better for way to control sway, the staight line w/dual cam or RP66560 and friction? Thanks.

Expert Reply:
The dual cam style of the Strait-Line series weight distribution systems works proactively to prevent sway before it starts. Whereas, the friction sway control of the Steadi-Flex series systems do help with sway, but they do not work to prevent sway before it starts like the dual cam systems do.
Both of these sway control styles will help with sway, but if you are looking for the better option for sway control I would recommend you get the dual cam setup.
The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it on the loaded tongue weight of your trailer. Loaded tongue weight is the amount of weight on the tongue of your trailer plus any weight carried behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Once you know the loaded tongue weight of your trailer you will want to pick out a weight distribution system that encompasses the tongue weight of your trailer.
I attached an FAQ article on weight distribution systems that details how to determine the tongue weight of a trailer for you to check out that should be helpful for picking out a weight distribution system.
