Weight Distribution and Brake Controller for 2014 Honda Odyssey Towing 2017 R-Pod

Question:

Hi. I have a 2014 Honda Odyssey towing capacity 3500 lbs. I am about to buy 2017 r pod 178 that weights 2649 without any cargo. I searched similar questions and I found this weights are quite heavy for my honda so I need to have WDH and break controller. Would you recommend which WDH, break controller, and 7 pole wiring are the best combination? FYI I already attached hitch 75270. Thanks.

Use of a weight distribution hitch (WDH) is recommend whenever a trailer weighs more than half the curb weight of the tow vehicle. Since your Odyssey's curb weight is about 4400-lbs you should definitely use a WDH to tow your R-Pod 178. Do note this trailer's GVWR, (gross vehicle weight rating, the most it can ever weigh when loaded) is 3750-lbs.

The R-Pod's loaded tongue weight is going to be right around 450-lbs so a good WD system to use is the Equal-i-zer # EQ37060ET which not only balances the weight of the vehicle and trailer but also prevents trailer sway. This system's brackets are smaller than many so they are easier to place on the trailer frame and it comes complete with a 2-inch hitch ball. You'll use a thin-wall socket like # ALL643216 to install the hitch ball.

If the Odyssey has no trailer wiring you'll start with 4-pole harness # 118521 and upgrade it to a 7-way using part # ETBC7L. For your trailer brake controller I suggest the easy-install Curt Echo # C51180. This controller is unique in that it uses your smartphone as the display and control device an installing it is literally a plug-in process. Plug the Echo in at your new 7-way, pair it to your phone and plug the trailer into the Echo. That's it. You can see more in the video on the Echo.
