Height Range of Curt Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R24 Slider # C16546

Question:

The details for the subject referenced 5th Wheel Hitch says it has a height adjustment from 17.5-21.5inch from base to top of skid plate. With a 2inch height increase between the 1st-2nd and 2nd-3rd mounting holes on slider. Is this accurate? I currently have a Curt E16 and it only measures about 15.75inch from bed to top of skid plate with one mounting hole remaining to increase height to its max height. I have two problems with this hitch: 1 The E16 hitch requires my toolbox to be removed when we tow the toy hauler, otherwise in turns the body sway has caused the front corners of toy hauler rub toolbox. 2 I think because it doesnt fully clamp on kingpin the body roll/sway while backing up is exaggerated because the king pin is able to move in the hitchs slide. Before I purchase the Curt Q24 with R24 slider assembly I want to verify that the assy really is maxed at 21.5inch height from bed of truck to top of skid plate. That would give me the 5.5+ inches recommended between top of toolbox to bottom of 5th wheel front cap and save my two sons some physical labor before our trips : Thanks in advance!

Helpful Expert Reply:

The hitch height range for the Curt Q24 part # C16546 that you referenced is 17-1/2 inch to 21-1/2 inch like you said you needed. This also will hold the king pin MUCH tighter than an E series hitch which uses a slide bar and allows quite a bit of movement.
