Is Vertical Play in the Reese Select Plus 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Head Normal

Question:

I just received a Reese 30081 20k 5th wheel and it seems like the head has an extraordinary amount of slop. It flops around, it hits and rubs on the center section. If the video doesnt show accurately, its probably got at least a 1/4inch of vertical movement. I have looked at the comments and stuff all over the internet and cant find that this is a common complaint. Any thoughts?

I do have an option for you but I don't think there is anything wrong with the Reese Select Plus 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # RP30081. The Reese Select Plus 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch is going to have vertical play in the head as that is how the hitch is designed. However, when there is weight on the hitch then it won't have near as much movement. Unfortunately, there is no way to adjust the vertical play as again that is just how the hitch is designed.

If you want to switch to a different 5th wheel hitch then I recommend, the Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16140. The Curt A20 has virtually no up and down play which you can see in the attached review video. My favorite thing about the A20 is the locking jaws. The locking jaws are 1" thick and have an interlocking design which will be much more secure than the Reese Select Plus 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch. It also features a one pin head removal system which saves your back each time you go to install/remove it.
