It's possible to adjust self adjusting brakes manually as we've tried to do it here just to see if it was possible. We found that it's somewhat challenging since the adjuster is mostly in the way. We had to use one tool to push the adjuster out of the way and then use the spoon tool to spin the star wheel. That said, the MUCH easier way to accomplish this will be to install the assembly and let the self-adjusting mechanism do the work for you.
One way to speed this up is to apply the manual override lever several times at parking lot speeds until they are totally set. With every application of the override the brakes will adjust one click tighter until they are fully adjusted where they will stop on their own.
