Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side rear access panel. You will have to remove the floor covering, rear cargo area cover, and scuff panel to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Powered converter reduces strain on wiring system and is made using SMT to ensure superior performance.Very easy to install in about an hour and works great on my 2021 Rav 4 Prime. Most of the installation time was actually removing and re-installing the trim. I would recommend another set of hands to hold back the side panel trim unless you take it all the way off.
This is a review of the packaging of the trailer hitch, electric harness and locking connector. The items were placed in a box and delivered to my driveway with no packaging material to be seen. Huge holes and the powder coating scrapped off. Heavy meatal items have made large holes in both long sides of the box and not sure if it is worth installing to see if bending or wiring harness has been compromised.
This wiring harness was described accurately in the advertisement and was a straightforward install. I am only a happy homeowner so had some challenges snaking the wiring to the battery connector, but that wasn't related to the product. I only use the connector intermittently, so chose to put the wire into my spare tire area until used, then flop it out under the rear hatch.
I recently ordered a Class 3 hitch and T-Style wiring harness system from Curt for my Rav4 Adv. The parts arrived at my doorstep on a Wednesday afternoon as promised, and I had completed the DIY install with the help from etrailer’s [online] videos for my car’s make and model that same night. Hardware fits great and appears to have strong welds and a solid protective coating, and the wiring system was completely plug and play as marketed. Recommended to me by a family member, and I would further recommend this product to any stranger.
Curt makes some really good products, But they need to look closer at this... I changed the install so It's tons easier. Newer Toyota rav4's have the battery in the rear on the passenger side. This is very convenient for running power to the module. But they want you to mount the module on the other side of the vehicle and run power wires over. I mounted everything to the passenger side and then switched the signal wires for the turn signals (green and yellow). This is a much easier install than running additional wires all the way across. (See pics) Install and operation id great!!!
This was a perfect fit for my 2021 RAV4 Prime XSE with Premium package that has the kick open hatch. You will have to take the exhaust pipes and muffler off the three rubber hangers. Don't forget to support the muffler so it doesn't hang to low and break something. The bolt on the rear passenger side is a bear. Have someone there to wiggle the hitch around or lining the bolt up to the hole is murder. I would use one of the bolts you removed from the tie down bracket for this hole because those bolts are shorter. That one bolt took 30 minutes to start threading.
The kick plate still works after installation...big plus!
Follow the video for installation and you’ll be just fine. Installed in 2023 hybrid rav 4 without issue. You have to take a lot of moldings out of the back of the vehicle; I recommend a panel tool!
The wiring harness fit perfectly.
However, in a RAV4 prime, the lights are reversed from the installation instructions.
No problem I just switched the wire.
Worked as advertised. Panels were easy to pull loose and snap back in place. Access behind panels was a little tight but was able to carefully route wires to complete install. Purchased Curt brackets to attach near hitch receiver.
I put the Class II hitch on my 2024Rav4 Hybrid. I didn't drop the muffler but I see why it makes it easier. I wiggled things in place, hydraulic jack to finalized position. Bolted in real clean. Wiring is next. My last product, class III on a ford Edge had no issues over 5 years of time.
Great trailer wiring kit. Installation was easy following the online video for how to release the cargo area panels to access wiring to install T-connectors and control unit.
Another awesome purchase, very easy to setup I was surprised. When I read I had to run a wire from the battery I almost stopped but the video online showed how easy it was and I'm glad I did it. Such a clean install, no tape, no wires hanging out, hides in the spare tire well when not using, perfect!
Works great do not run it through inside interior panels go underneath the car my rav 4 has a shield where the break lines run needs to be up high enough too be able to crawl on your back to remove it work your way up to engine compartment feed wire up to your battery used wire zip ties to tie wire to your brake line put back together shield has plastic plugs don’t lose them or break them

still holding up great no problems working great once in a will I spry a little bit off lithium great on plug ends both car and trailer so they go together a little easer try to keep ends from moister problems with plugs
Easy to install, especially with etrailer's helpful videos. One year later, works like it is right out of the package still.
Completely plug-and-play I follow the directions on YouTube. It was pretty simple. It took me about 40 minutes to hook everything up high quality set up.
I would have gave 5 stars but the shipping box was in very bad shape, surprisingly nothing was damaged or missing. A little black spray paint to hide some minor scratches and it was good . a parts fit and worked great , very happy
Glad I bought the wiring harness after watching a YouTube video can blow fuse box so this was a plug-and-play and work perfect!!!
Easy to install (with a little patience). Install videos are always helpful.

This is my second time installing this kit in a Rav4. Easy to install, worth doing it yourself.
The products installed easy but the box as others have stated was terrible, half the hitch was hanging out of the box when it arrived and it was missing a lot of paint, also the tail light kit package was in the box with the hitch so it got all smashed up from the lacl of packaging
there was quite a bit of rear interior panel removal and one wire had to be fed all the way to the battery beneath the car. But the instructional video was very good and if you follow that step by step you'll be OK. Works perfectly on my 2019 Rav4.
Great hitch, well made, great design with hidden crossbar. Best product at best price for my 2020 Rav4. Comes loose in a cardboard box so expect minor damage to finish for protruding parts. Touch up with matte black spray paint if needed. If you figure a way to support the hitch receiver during installation that is adjustable, one person can put the receiver on without lowering the muffler, but lowering the muffler makes it easier to get the bolts in. Bolts on driver side can be torqued easily but due to narrow space on passenger side, you will need something like a "Stanley Proto J5124 3/8" Drive Torque Adapter 3/4"" to properly torque.
Great quality connector wiring converter kit.
Ordered the trailer hitch and wiring harness on 7/17/23. Apparently due to high demand of the trailer hitch, delivery was delayed approximately 5 weeks. When the order arrived, the wiring harness was missing (it was listed on the packing list) as the box was opened and taped shut by UPS. Emailed etrailer a few times without a response, then called. The CSR requested I send a few pics of the box showing the torn flap and the box taped up. A replacement wiring harness was sent and received a few days later. I hope to install the harness in the next few days. There are plenty of you tube videos showing installation, so I don't expect any problems.
I always love shopping on etrailer.com. It’s easy to search and find the things I want when they have it. Delivery is expeditious and their customer service is amazing! I already received an email with additional instructions and videos for installation above what was delivered with the trailer hitch.
I think it’s great that you’re able to buy the hitch and install it yourself and the wiring. I saved a ton of money.

Wiring harness still works great after 1 year! Easy to access when its needed and no issues with connections or function.
