Troubleshooting Ford OEM Reese 27500 lb 5th Wheel Hitch Head Not Locking King Pin
Question:
I have a Ford OEM Reece 27500# hitch in my 19 F350. When I back into the hitch, it will not lock completely about the kingpin, almost like it is binding. Ive tried pulling forward and backward with no success. Is this a common problem with this hitch?

The Reese M5 Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Wiring Harness - Single Jaw - 27,000 lbs # RP30922 is the closest option we have to the factory Reese hitch. It uses the same head and there is an old tech bulletin that addressed a premature latching due to a lubrication issue. I've attached that info for you. This may be a similar solution, but we have not seen this as a common problem.
