Locking Jaw Will Not Fully Open On Reese 20K Select Plus 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch
Question:
New to RVing. This hitch recommended and installed by dealer. We are having difficulty getting hitched. The jaw seems to stick out a lot in the opening, so when we back in, the kingpin just butts up against it, rather than sliding past it. The arm is in the open position. We do note that we can pull the handle even further out, which pulls the jaw back in a bit more, but this takes manually pulling on it. It is not the resting open position of the arm. I have pics I could send. Is there something to adjust? We were able to hitch once before. No damage, we havent even taken it out of storage lot yet.

There are a few things that could cause the issue you are having with the locking jaw not opening up fully on the Reese Select Plus 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # RP30081. The first thing I would check is that the jaw is greased properly and there is no foreign material inside the head that is stopping the jaw from fully opening. If nothing is found then there could also be a damaged component such as the jaw spring part # RP58230. If needed, we also offer a replacement head the 20K Select Plus Fifth Wheel Head Kit part # 58292.
