How to Make 7-Way Blade to 7-Way Round Adapter for Tractor Trailer to Use Curt Echo

Question:

Hello. I have a New Holland work master 70, I tow a large trailer for taking my oyster cages to and from the beach, my roads have steep inclines so I need at least a manual brake controller to apply breaking to my trailer. The tractor has a seven pin AG connector. From what I can tell the brakes do not communicate to the brake lighting set ups for example when the brakes are presses the tractor brake lights do not get brighter I belive they are only Marker lights., that is fine as I only need to be able to manually apply brakes through a brake controller not by using the brake pedal. I have attached a diagram of the 7 pin plug on the tractor. I also thought I could use a prodigy RF brake controller because it would seem that the brake controller would only need 12 volt input to work manually However parring the control without brake input seems would create a problem. The tractor has Red lights to the back hazards and turn signals.. Just scratching my head. Thanks for your help...

Your heavy duty style 7-way is different than the 7-ways we normally see for two reasons. One reason is that the stop lights and the turn signals are on different circuits and because the 7-way uses round pins instead of flat blade style connectors.

On the chart that you attached you don't have a dedicated brake output signal (probably because your vehicle normally tows air brake trailers) but you do have an extra NA circuit that you could use a brake controller with. To use the Curt Echo # C51180 or the Prodigy RF part # 90250 this circuit would need to carry 12 volts. Now you'd also need to make a 7-way round to blade adapter as well.

If you need to keep the 7-Way semi active on the truck then you would need to make an adapter to get it to work with an RV 7-Way. For that you would need a trailer side 7-Way round, # PK11702, a converter, # RM-732, and a vehicle side 7-Way RV style, # PK12-707E.

Once this adapter is wired properly and has the 12 volt power circuit (ran from your vehicle battery) complete the Curt Echo or RV would work like normal.
